A diet that includes dark chocolate, red wine and coffee? Sounds a little familiar – a la a French woman’s diet; but really it’s the hot new superfood sensation = Sirtfood. Sirtfood is food that is high in sirtuin activators, known to help prevent cell inflammation and death. But research has also shown that sirtfoods may help regulate our metabolism helping to burn increase muscle and burn fat.
If you are as intrigued as I am, just wait until you learn what’s included in the new sirtfood group:
- Green tea
- Red wine
- Grapes
- Dark chocolate
- Blueberries
- Citrus fruit
- And more
But if you think sirtfood gives you the green light for a feast, think again. The Sirtfood plan/diet, promoted in recent books and articles, actually takes quite an aggressive approach to dieting, where you limit calorie intake to 1,000 calories (via sirtfoods) for 3 days and 1,500 for the remainder of the week. Hmm, not so appetizing.
Sadly, overindulging in any of these foods is less than ideal and definitley not tres chic. Like anything worth eating, moderation is the key. Yes, even with healthy sirtfoods.
So instead of engaging in crash dieting, try adding a few more of these antioxidant rich superfoods to your weekly meals….and you just may lose a couple pounds in the process.
