For over 50 years ago, the beloved Paddington Bear has graced children’s books with his worldly adventures and his love for marmalade. This year, Paddington will go on yet another adventure in the hopes of actually selling more of the sticky sweet toast spread. According to a recent report, sales of marmalade have taken the biggest hit in the last year, falling further out of favor than other jams/spreads like honey, while sales of chocolate, peanut butter, and nutella continue to rise.
With sales of marmalade falling, marmalade producers have enlisted the help of the large overstuffed version of Paddington to spread the message that breakfast is still an important meal of the day – oh, and don’t forget the yummy marmalade!
Suitcase in hand – or paw in this case -Paddington left his namesake Underground station in London on January 15. He will make several stops throughout England and Wales before ending his tour in the Edinburgh train station on February 5.
Will Paddington’s tour boost marmalade sales? No one knows for sure. However, if you are fortunate enough to see this lovable bear with the blue coat and big floppy red hat, please look after him.
