Rosé wine is one of my favorite wines to drink – especially sparkling rosé. And given June 8 is National Rosé Day, what better day to chat about this delicate and versatile wine.
The phrase “Rosé All Day” is no joke. With its charming pink hue and delightfully light and crisp taste, rosé is a perfect drink to enjoy all summer long. Whether you’re sipping it during long sunny days or steamy evenings – you can’t go wrong with rosé.
So on this day fully dedicated to rosé, let’s take a look at a few sweet little facts about this lovely beverage.
8 Facts About Rosé Wine
1. A Rosé in Bloom – Rosé can be made using several methods, including maceration, where red grape skins are left in contact with the juice for a short period, blending red and white wines, and the saignée method, which involves “bleeding” off some juice from red wine fermentation.
2. Blushing Beauty – The color of rosé wine can range from pale pink to vibrant magenta, depending on the grape varieties used and the winemaking process.
3. Center of Attention – Provence in France is considered the epicenter of rosé wine production, known for its dry, aromatic, and elegantly pale rosés.
4. Royal Rosé – During the 18th century, rosé wine was a favorite at the court of King Louis XV, often referred to as “vinum regium” or royal wine.
5. Ancient Rosé – The Bandol region in France has been producing rosé wine since the Middle Ages, making it one of the oldest rosé-producing areas in the world.
6. Rosé By Any Other Name – Rosé is not just a French affair. Excellent rosés are produced in Spain (where it’s called “rosado”), Italy (“rosato”), the United States, Australia, and beyond.
7. Healthy Rosé– Like red wine, rosé contains antioxidants, such as resveratrol, which have been linked to heart health. It’s a lighter alternative that still offers some health benefits.
8. Rosé All Year – While often associated with summer, rosé can be enjoyed year-round. Its versatility pairs well with a variety of foods, from salads and seafood to spicy dishes and even barbecue.
Enough talk….now, it’s time to pour a glass of this pink perfection. Cheers!
