I’m so fortunate to be back in one of my favorite vacation places – Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Although I’ve visited Hilton Head many times, today I discovered The French Bakery, an adorable (albeit expensive) French coffee shop and cafe in the Shelter Cove area of the island.
Don’t be fooled by the size of the cafe. While on the smaller side, the cafe has an extensive breakfast, brunch and lunch menu, including omelettes, quiche, salads, sandwiches, French toast and more. Seriously, there were so many good choices on the menu, it was hard for me to decide! I landed on a French favorite – the spinach, tomato and cheese quiche and was not disappointed!
To sweeten the French experience, the cafe also has an array of coffee, espresso, and tea drinks, not to mention an assortment of breakfast pastries, including scones and croissants in multiple flavors, plus cakes, tarts and even macarons. If I’m being honest, it’s hard to pass by the bakery counter and not walk away with something sweet and delicious. The almond croissant and chocolate/custard twist were lovely!
Really, the only caveat was the price. Egg dishes were quite pricey (starting at ~$17 for traditional egg dishes) given that eggs are about $4 a dozen. Still, I would not hesitate to recommend going there at least once – even for a takeaway latte and scone.
See you all soon,
Jennifer
