A survey conducted in summer of 2020 showed that, due to COVID, 44% of American drivers were taking more road trips than ever. And, nearly one year later, the popularity of road trips shows no signs of decreasing anytime soon. In fact, another more recent survey indicated that, even with COVID restrictions lifting, Americans plan to take at least one road trip this year.
So why are so many people road tripping? It’s no surprise that road trips have increased during COVID as people became nervous about flying or being around large crowds. Road trips offered an alternative form of vacation transportation, one that seemed safer and more reliable, where most people could control cleanliness and exposure to the virus.
However, even beyond COVID, road trips offer one big benefit that many traditional pre-planned vacations do not – flexibility. Although most people have a general road trip plan or schedule, it tends to be looser than a schedule tied to flights, tours or major hotel stays. And, hence, revising the road trip plan from day to day is often much easier. Whether it’s making a pitstop in Vegas on your way to California or taking a side trip to Washington, DC before heading to Outer Banks – road trips allow you to get from destination to destination at your own pace, seeing whatever sights you want to along the way.
But with so many monuments, museums, national parks and other destinations across the US to see, how do you know which trip is right for you? Check out these informative and fun articles for how to choose your next road trip destination.
