Happy National Pizza Day! Although pizza will never taste as good as it does when you’re eating it in Italy, there are a few, easy-to-use tools, that can up your pizza game and help you make an awesome, homemade pizza right in your own home.
3 Game-changing Pizza Tools
Bread Machine – When we first bought our bread machine, we only used it for French bread loaves about once a month. It wasn’t until we used it for pizza dough that we started using the machine every week. Don’t get me wrong, the French bread was lovely – but pizza dough from the bread machine is a huge timesaver if you want to have homemade pizza dough without a lot of fuss. Not only is it super easy to make, but when following the directions exactly, the dough comes out fluffy and tastes amazing!
Pizza Steel – One thing that makes pizza in Italy stand out is the high amount of heat restaurants use when cooking the pizza. Most restaurant grade pizza ovens can cook pizza at 800 degrees Fahrenheit, while normal household ovens only reach a max of 550F. A pizza steel that’s heated within a household oven set to its max temp will actually absorb the heat and more efficiently transfer the heat to the pizza when it’s placed on top. It literally takes about 4-6 minutes to cook a pizza in our oven when we use the steel, and we get perfectly crisp pizza every time. Honestly, this has been the biggest game changer in our pizza-making adventure.
Pizza Peel – The easiest way to transfer your pizza to and from your pizza steel is a well-floured pizza peel, a large wooden paddle reminiscent of those used in authentic Italian restaurants. Although there are very high end peels that are quite pricey, you can get decent ones that are less expensive.
Buon appetito!
